General Introduction on the Bachelor Programs
College of Intelligence and Computing at Tianjin University (hereafter referred to as “the College”) is established in the context of full implementation of “Double-First Class” initiative on the construction of world-class universities and first-class disciplines in China, aiming to further optimize the discipline layout and promote the interdisciplinary integration.
There are altogether four schools under the College, including School of Computer Science and Technology, School of Computer Software, School of Cyber Security and School of Artificial Intelligence. There are two doctoral degree programs in computer science and technology and software engineering, and all of them are key disciplines in Tianjin. Postdoctoral research station is established. Computer Science Discipline got top 1% in ESI rankings. Software Engineering got A- in the National Discipline Assessment. Data Science got fund support from “Double-First Class” initiative.
The College is animated by a strong faculty. Currently there are around 150 faculty members in the College and many of them have been selected and supported by various high-level talents programs such as Ten Thousand Plan - National high level talents special support plan, National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and National Natural Science Foundation--Outstanding Youth Foundation, etc. Scientific research focuses on the international frontier and serves the needs of national economy and livelihood. As a co-construction unit of National Engineering Laboratory of Big Data Application on Improving Government Governance Capability, the College participates in the construction program as Government Data Cognitive Computing Research Center. Besides, there are more research centers such as Tianjin Key Laboratory of Cognitive Computing and Application, Tianjin Key Laboratory of Advanced Networking, Key Research Center for Surface Monitoring and Analysis of Cultural Relics, Tianjin Engineering and Technical Center for Cultural Heritage Protection and Inheritance, and Tianjin International Joint R&D Center Network Big Data International Research Center, etc. Furthermore, there are other scientific research resources in the College, such as National Super -Computing Tianjin Center -Tianjin University Branch, Tianjin University Super-Computing Center, etc. In recent years, the College has undertaken numbers of high-level scientific research projects such as National Key Research and Development Program and National Natural Science Foundation of China. Numbers of academic papers with great international influence are published. Many academic research achievements have been widely used in Smart City, Public Security, Cultural Heritage Protection, Intelligent Transportation, Intelligent Health, Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Astronomy and Space Science, etc.
At present, there are around 1500 full-time undergraduate students, 500 master students, 100 doctoral students, and about 80 full-time international students in the College. The College aims on the goal of training innovative talents. Thus, innovative laboratories with MSRA, IBM, Google, Intel, Tencent, Baidu, and other Well-known IT companies are established. Moreover, there are several joint training programs with prestigious international universities such as University of California (Berkeley), Georgia Institute of Technology, South Carolina University, and Japan Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. The employment rate of students remains above 98% for 10 consecutive years. More than 20000 high-level talents for the IT field in China are trained in the College.
In the future, the College will continuously focus on high-quality talents training and academic research aiming at the country's significant needs and international academic frontiers, and strive to build a world-class college with Chinese and TJU characteristics.
