Doctoral Program in Software Engineering (academic degree)
1. Introduction
Software Engineering is one of the fastest developing disciplines in the field of information technology, and software industry has also become the pillar industry of economic development in many countries. Its Knowledge areas include software requirements, Software design, software construction, software testing, software configuration management, software maintenance, software project management, software engineering tools and methods, software security, software quality, software ethics and law, and so on, also relate to system engineering, domain engineering, digital technology, embedded systems, network and information security, system management and support and other cross-disciplinary areas.
Research interests includes but not limited to software theory and technology, network engineering and applications, embedded software technology and applications, and digital information processing technologies.
2. Objectives
The overall goal is to cultivate outstanding talents with global vision, innovative spirit and practical ability. This program is aimed to develop high-level professionals in computer science and technology filed in all-round way including the morality, intelligence, physical health and art. The Ph.D. students of this profession should master a solid and broad basic theory and systematic in-depth expertise, techniques and methods in Software Engineering. The students shall have ability of doing research work independently, and can produce creative results in his expertise. They are proficient in a foreign language, reading foreign language materials of their specialty, and can write research papers in foreign languages. They have abilities to work in research, teaching and technology development work in higher education institutions, research institutions and related industry sectors.
3. Program Training and Duration
Program training: The cultivation of academic degree postgraduates mainly adopts the combination of course study, scientific research training and academic exchange, and implements supervisor's individual guidance or supervisor’s team guidance system.
Program duration: The basic minimum study period for doctoral students is 4 years.
4. Requirements for compulsory program content
For academic conferences, frontier lectures, training on how to write scientific projects proposal, article reading and report, Proposal for final thesis, group meeting report, mid-term evaluations and other compulsory training procedures, the corresponding report results and teachers' signed review results must be submitted, and the Proposal for final thesis report and group meeting reports need to submit meeting minutes: attendees, meeting content, as well as other academic achievements required by the supervisor.
5. Diploma requirements
The relevant requirements of the final degree shall be in accordance with the requirements of Tianjin University master and doctoral degree work implementation documents. Besides the final degree thesis, master students should publish journal or conference papers and meet the requirements of Tianjin University Degree Committee fifteenth sub-committee before they are awarded degree.
6. Courses and Credits
Students are required to obtain no less than 21 credits, including 14 credits of courses and 7 credits of compulsory Training Procedures.
