TJU Signs Strategic Cooperation Agreement with China Telecom and Huawei

Tianjin Industrial and Information Technology Bureau held a conference promoting Industry-university-research collaboration in 5G industry on September 24, 2020. Tianjin University, China Telecom and Huawei attended the conference as strategic partners and signed a Strategic Cooperation Agreement.

Zhu Yubing, Deputy Secretary General of Tianjin Municipal Government, Yuan Yingjin, Vice President of Tianjin University, Zhao Yufeng, General Manager of China Telecom Tianjin Branch and other leaders from relative departments witnessed the signing ceremony. Hu Qinghua, Vice Dean of Tianjin University’s College of Intelligence and Computing, Su Weifeng, Deputy General Manager of China Telecom Tianjin Branch, and Qi Pingchuan, General Manager of Huawei Tianjin Cloud and AI BG signed the Strategic Cooperation Agreement. Meanwhile, Joint Innovation Laboratory for Digital Government- Smart City built by these three parties was also unveiled.

Yuan Yingjin delivered a speech at the ceremony and introduced Tianjin University’s research capability and achievements in 5G and AI field. Tianjin University’s College of Intelligence and Computing has 11 provincial and ministerial research teams and bases, while a 100 million yuan-level collaborative project group on production and research in Digital Government-Smart Society has been built, including Smart City, Smart Safe Community, Smart Home, and Smart Healthcare, etc.

Yuan Yingjin mentioned that as the key IT infrastructure, 5G is one of the core elements for China in building Digital Government and Smart Society. Research on 5G theories and key technologies, promotion on industrial innovation and talents training are the advantages as well as the obligatory responsibilities of the universities. With the cooperation with China Telecom and Huawei, Tianjin University can now establish this Innovation Lab. This lab will focus on promoting theoretical, technological and application innovations for Digital Government and Smart City and also the transformation of scientific achievements, providing an open service platform for enterprises, and solving technical problems in the industry based on a number of research projects sponsored by grants from the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Science Foundation, and enterprises. Yuan also expressed his wish to take this strategic cooperation as a fresh start and explore more diversified cooperation in more fields in the future.

Tianjin University, China Telecom and Huawei will carry out strategic cooperation in exploring cutting-edge technologies, talents training and achievement transformation in 5G, AI, big data, intelligent network, edge intelligence, human-computer interaction, pattern recognition and other technologies replying on the resources from Tianjin University’s College of Intelligence and Computing. This Joint Innovation Laboratory for Digital Government- Smart City will greatly help the construction of new infrastructures, building an AI demonstration area, promoting the development of smart society, enhancing digital industrialization, supporting industrial digitalization, and finally empowering social informatization.
