The National Postdoctoral Forum on the Development and Application of Artificial Intelligence 2019 was held at Tianjin University from October 31st to November 1st on Tianjin University’s Peiyangyuan Campus. This Forum was hosted by the National Postdoctoral Management Committee, China Postdoctoral Science Foundation, Tianjin Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, and China Northern Talent Market and Tianjin University.
More than 300 people participated in the forum, including well-known experts from Tsinghua University, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, University of New South Wales and other fields in Artificial Intelligence at home and abroad, and Postdoctoral Fellows from more than 80 universities and post-doctoral research stations.
In the opening ceremony, Wang Xiao, Deputy Director of the Overseas Personnel and Expert Service Center from the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security first addressed all the participants. He pointed out that Tianjin the city, as one of the nation’s first batch of experimental zones to promote next-generation innovative Artificial Intelligence development, boasted a series of advantages that will promote AI development such as favorable policies, a friendly environment, ample computational capacity and data resources, and industrial clusters that advocate a “smart plus” integrative development. Wang expressed the wish that experts, scholars and post-doctors present at the forum could take the opportunity to conduct in-depth exchanges and come up with suggestions for the construction and application of Artificial Intelligence in Tianjin. Wang also approved Tianjin University's efforts in post-doctoral education.
Chen Hui, Deputy Director of the Tianjin Municipal Bureau of Human Resources and Social Security said in her speech that Tianjin, as a smart manufacturing model city and smart industry development center in China, has superior location advantages and a good investment environment. “We hope to enhance Artificial Intelligence application in Tianjin through the interaction between academics and industry.
Zhao Meirong, Deputy Party Secretary of Tianjin University mentioned in her speech that Tianjin University has always been proactive in serving regional development in the process of building a world-class university. “In the future, Tianjin University will build up an AI talent training system and scientific innovation promotion system,” said Zhao. She specified the university’s work and achievements in the post-doctoral student cultivation.
The forum received more than 100 papers. A total of 30 papers were awarded Grand Prize, First prize, Second prize and Excellency Prize. Grand prizes were awarded to the research team from the Institute of Automation at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Zhejiang University’s team.
Gu Xiaosong, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of the Medical College of Tianjin University presented a report on the "Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Medicine Development”. He pointed out that the advancement of Artificial Intelligence technology is highly related to the development of modern medical science. At present, China's "Artificial Intelligence + Big Data" smart medical model is rapidly developing. Based on the national strategy, Tianjin University is the first university to establish the Intelligent Medical Engineering Major, and will make more breakthrough achievements in the field of intelligent medicine in the future. He said that the majority of postdoctoral researchers were the main force of national research and technological innovation. He also encouraged young scholars to strengthen their convictions and overcome difficulties in the future research.
A Roundtable Seminar regarding the industry-university-research cooperation on Artificial Intelligence was held. Experts and postdoctoral researchers conducted face-to-face and in-depth exchanges. There were also three parallel sessions on Interdisciplinary Intelligent Application, Computer Vision and Natural Language Processing with 30 award-winners presenting heir research work in detail.
On November 1st, the delegates visited the Collaborative Innovation Exhibition Center of Tianjin Binhai-Zhongguancun Science and Technology Park. Reportedly, this forum focuses on the national strategic planning and cutting-edge technological development in the field of Artificial Intelligence, aiming to promote exchanges and cooperation between postdoctoral researchers in the fields of Artificial Intelligence and Intelligent Medicine.
